Application: Aero Engine Heavy-duty CNC machining on large vertical turning lathes and 7 axis m/cs, using emulsion.
This 1st tier manufacturer to Rolls Royce Aero Engines, uses very large, heavy-duty cutting CNC machines on hard metals to produce large critical components. Emulsion is used on the machines at high pressure.
Due to the speed at which the components were spinning, along with the high-pressure coolant that was being added, high quantities of mist was being produced and was settling on the floor, alarming the operators and management alike.
On one large vertical turning lathe in particular, ScandMist advised the company to fit a roof over the machine prior to installing a ScandMist MA 200 D unit. The ScandMist unit collected mist during machining before discharging clinically cleaned air back to facility – air cleaner than that found outside the facility.
In addition to the enjoying the benefits of removing oil mist from facility and the zero maintenance requirements of ScandMist, the customer also relied on ScandMist survey reports as part of their risk assessment.
Following this success, several more ScandMist units were ordered - for existing machine tools and also specified to all new machine tools bought from global machine tool manufacturers.
