Application: Heavy-duty CNC gearcutting and machining using emulsion and neat oil.
This major international company is one of the biggest producers of transmissions for heavy vehicles in Europe. The main manufacturing plant uses heavy-duty CNC gear cutting and hobbing machines as well as lathes and mills.
The machining processes created such substantial oil mist that the existing filtration systems could not cope. Indeed, the existing oil mist systems were discharging most of the mist back into the facility.
The large amounts of entwined oil mist in the facility created substantial slip hazards from the settled mist on the floor. Additionally, the ceilings and walls ran with oil and the lights had dulled. It had a demoralising effect on the workforce.
The maintenance department had become overstretched having to maintain the existing oil mist filtration systems every month, just to ensure the filtration levels were at even a low efficiency. As well as this, the floors had to be washed 2-3 times per day, the lights had to be regularly cleaned, and the walls and ceilings repainted every year.
ScandMist MA 100 R, 200 R, 350 R, and 200 D and 400 D units were selected on the advice of the Scandfilter engineers, and were installed by the customer’s own maintenance department.
Since then, the high efficiency ScandMist units have discharged clean air back to facility and have had a major impact:
- Internal air quality has vastly improved
- Floors need washing once a week instead of 2-3 times a day
- Lights are washed once a year, instead of 3-4 times per year
- Walls and ceilings have not needed repainting
And with no maintenance required to run the ScandMist systems, the pressure on the maintenance department has greatly reduced.
